WIPCE 2017

In July 2017, twelve (12) staff* under the Department of Justice were given the opportunity to attend the World Indigenous People’s Conference on Education in Toronto, Ontario.

WIPCE is held every 3 years in various locations for highly regarded Indigenous education experts, practitioners, and scholars. Our staff attended many gatherings, speakers, and workshops where they gained insight on Indigenous education all over the world - successes and strategies they were able to bring home to Eeyou Istchee. As well, key Department staff held a presentation workshop entitled Empowering Our Youth, A Way of Life to educate others on the type of prevention programming we have in the Department of Justice for Cree youth, in order to prepare them to make healthier decisions to become future leaders in the Cree Nation. WIPCE explored the ways in which Indigenous people around the world are interacting with similar movements and how resiliency is playing a major role in the revitalization of our diverse cultures.
